The Nintendo Wii U launched as expected, but Nintendo decided to issue a huge patch minutes before the actual release of the console. Not too big of an issue for some, but for most it was a nightmare. If a user lost internet connection, or power during the update then the console was bricked inside-out.

The update was 5GB and took around a hour to download, even interrupting/canceling the update would brick the console to be a useless piece of plastic. Nintendo has yet to comment on why this is happening, or how widespread it is. Unfortunately, without the patch installed you won’t be able to use online play which is the big factor in the new Nintendo console.
So a warning if you are waiting to use your Wii U, to please be careful when installing the patch.
